James S. Damico is Department Chair and Associate Professor of Literacy, Culture and Language Education at Indiana University. His work addresses complex social problems, including climate change. He is the author of many journal articles and book chapters and is the co-author of the book Social Studies as New Literacies: Relational Cosmopolitanism in the Classroom (Routledge, 2011). James is also the Director of the INSPIRE Living Learning Center and Co-Director of the Harmony-Meier Institute for Democracy and Equity in Education. Alexandra Panos is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Literacy, Culture and Language Education at Indiana University. Alexandra is a former Middle-School Language Arts teacher. Her scholarly work focuses mostly on long-term work with teachers, children and community members/organizations on the social and political issues impacting how schools engage in their geographical spaces. Her research also addresses social and political issues of education through critical media literacy and young adult/children’s literature.

Mark Baildon is Associate Professor and Head with the Humanities and Social Studies Education Academic Group at the National Institute of Education (Singapore). Mark has taught social studies in secondary schools in the USA, Israel, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan. His scholarly interests focus on ways to support social studies inquiry practices and twenty-first-century literacies in new global contexts. He has published two books: Social Studies as New Literacies in a Global Society: Relational Cosmopolitanism in the Classroom (with James Damico, Routledge, 2011) and Controversial History Education in Asian Contexts (co-editor; Routledge, 2013).
