Dr Zhihui Fang is a Professor of Education in the School of Teaching and Learning at the University of Florida, USA. He has published widely in the areas of language and literacy education, English teacher education and functional linguistics in education. His recent research explores varied ways knowledge is constructed through language across different school subjects, the challenges these ways of using language present to reading comprehension and written composition and pedagogical strategies for addressing these challenges.

Brittany Adams is a third-year PhD student in the School of Teaching and Learning at the University of Florida, USA. She is studying in the Curriculum and Instruction program with an emphasis on Literacy Education. She earned her bachelor’s from the University of Florida and her master’s from Florida State University. Her research concerns using children’s and young adult literature to develop classroom curriculum that supports critical literacy.

Valerie T. Gresser is a second-year doctoral student in the School of Teaching and Learning at the University of Florida, USA. She earned her bachelor’s from Arizona State University and her master’s from Northern Arizona University. A former National Board-Certified teacher, Gresser has 18 years of teaching/coaching experience in various grades at the elementary level. Her research interests include language and literacy education, functional linguistics and teacher education.

Dr Cuiying Li is a Senior Lecturer at Chongqing Jiaotong University, China. Her research interests include systemic functional linguistics, discourse semantics, English for specific purpose, genre-based pedagogy and teacher education. Her previous research focused on the study of English curriculum for Chinese universities from the perspective of systemic functional linguistics and Chinese English teacher development. Her recent publications and projects are around English teacher development and the application of genre-based literacy pedagogy in Chinese higher education.
