BP gains top award for e-commerceKeywords: Awards, Utilities
BP UK Gas & Power has won a top utility industry award for its innovation in e-commerce. Their e-energy Internet-based trading and information service, which provides a direct interactive link to BP risk managers and enables business customers both to buy and sell physical quantities of gas, gained first place in 2000 Utility Awards – e-commerce category.
Judges unanimously thought that BP's e-energy business application was the best example of real online trading. Their commendation stated: "It was part of an obvious long-term strategy to move an existing client base into the electronic trading world, and was done for clear business benefit and based on a clear principle of customer benefit."
Peter Mather, managing director of BP UK Gas & Power, collected the award at the end-of-year Utility Awards Achievement, held in London, and was obviously delighted that the industry has recognised BP's success. "We see the value in e-energy business to be the ability to give customers greater individuality. Based on information, service and support our customers can shape the way they want to manage their energy needs".
