Johnson Controls' new CD

Keywords Facilities management

Leading integrated facilities management company Johnson Controls IFM has helped develop a revolutionary new CD-ROM which stores information on facilities management and design and build projects in a compact format. The IFM and Project Development CD collates vital project data, including design drawings and health and safety documentation, and was developed during the fit out of a major US bank's flagship branch.

The CD provides the client, facilities management and project team with all of the relevant IFM and project information in a user-friendly, interactive format. An access menu provides an easy reference point to all of the information gathered during the project. The CD also eliminates the cost of storing hard copy drawings and documentation in the office environment.

A feature of the system is the dynamic point selection system, which enables the user to click on an image and reveal background information relating to that item, such as cost, where it was sourced from and how it was fitted.

Johnson Controls is to extend the use of the CD-ROM on other projects and facilities management accounts and will include the following information:

  • corporate identity and business profile;

  • IFM and project development;

  • critical services systems;

  • health and safety file/manual;

  • design and build case studies;

  • archiving documentation;

  • archive drawing reference.

The CD was produced in conjunction with specialist design company Spice Design.

David Cannon, Johnson Controls' Facility and Engineering Manager, who developed the CD, said: "The CD benefits from the latest IT development techniques, which enables both drawings and equipment details to be retrieved extremely quickly. It forms a single point of reference for all project information and significantly reduces the colossal amount of paperwork which is so often produced.

"The CD is a useful tool which will streamline access to both facilities management and project information which will help promote interactivity with the client."
