Kohn Pedersen Fox (London) has been announced as the winner of an invited competition to design the North West of England's tallest building in the heart of Liverpool.
The new 650,000sq.ft development on Chapel Street has been designed for Rumford Investments and will be a significant new addition to the city. Kohn Pedersen Fox (London)'s new building will be instrumental in heralding the beginning of a comprehensive regeneration programme that will transform Liverpool's waterfront and skyline.
The new 145m tall landmark building has been designed as a cluster of slender stone towers framing a glass and steel atrium that rises to the full height of the building. The height of each tower reflects the form of the hill below, creating an elegant cascade dropping towards the river. On the main Chapel Street frontage, glazed lifts will be visible from the waterfront, their movement providing a dynamic signature on the City skyline at night.
The building will incorporate the latest advances in low energy design and create an excellent and flexible working environment to meet the needs of tenants into the next decade. The tower has been designed to link Liverpool's business district with the waterfront and will provide a mix of uses, enhancing the activity and life of the neighbourhood. KPF Partner, David Leventhal, said:"This is an excellent opportunity for Kohn Pedersen Fox to provide an important contribution to the redevelopment and regeneration of one of the UK's most famous and architecturally rich cities."
