More than one million architects worldwide can now gain access to a wealth of news, views and events from the Commonwealth Association of Architects' dynamic new Web site.

Called the "Architectural Exchange" (www.archexchange.org) the site is specifically designed to help architects around the world exchange information,pleas for help and general news. The site includes:

  • a comprehensive calendar of architectural events;

  • an extensive "best links" section;

  • details of all CAA member countries and schools of architecture;

  • and a quest to find the "Building of the Commonwealth".

In time, it is hoped to extend the site to include details of the many products and services that architects specify or want information about.

"We're still in our early days, but we've devised an excellent structure and – in time – we plan to add several new sections", said CAA executive director, Tony Godwin. "Because architects are responsible for specifying huge quantities of building materials and products, we're also on the look out for a Web site sponsor."

Other sections in the pipeline include details of all the main architectural competitions and awards and a section on grants and other sources of funding that architects can apply for. People using the site will be able to automatically add their own details and requests.

Ultimately, the aim is to provide a free "buyers meet sellers"facility, so that an architect anywhere in the world, could post a request for staff or research information offer, say, a surplus CAD installation or a designer chair for sale.
