New FM awards underline facilities in action

The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) has launched a set of new awards which emphasise the wider impact of Facilities Management (FM) on today's business environment.
Building on the huge success and credibility of the "Office of the Year Awards", BIFM has expanded its awards programme to include 12 new awards to reflect the growing importance of FM in the modern workplace.
"Whereas the Office of the Year Awards were based around projects, we have expanded the awards to encompass management of service rather than the delivery of it", says immediate past chairman of BIFM, Lionel Prodgers."There is now more of a bias towards managed discipline because we believe this is more representative of the whole FM industry."
He adds that the BIFM Awards for 2001 represent an excellent opportunity for people from all sectors of the FM industry to achieve recognition in association with BIFM, for excellence in their different disciplines.
Unlike the "Office of the Year Awards", participants can enter for an individual award without having been involved in any redevelopment or construction projects.
The awards will be presented on 17 October at the BIFM gala dinner, as part of a series of events surrounding the BIFM annual conference and FM Expo 2001.
