Hospitals wishing to clean up their act, after a House of Commons public committee report revealed that up to 5,000 patients die each year from infections acquired during their stay, can now receive advice on hygienic heating solutions from Atmos Heating Systems.
The Daventry based company offers a hygienic version of its high efficiency Robatherm air handling unit for hospitals, specifically designed to be used in a germ-free environment. Manufactured to the German RALG2-652 standard for hygienic air handling units, they meet the stringent specifications for air handling units suitable for hospitals.
Ian Callard, managing director of Atmos Heating Systems, explains, "The Robatherm units are manufactured with stainless steel, with no uneven surfaces, making them incredibly easy to clean. The materials used will not perish when disinfectant is applied, and all components are designed to be easily accessible for thorough cleaning.
"In addition, concerns about the Legionella bacterium can be forgotten, as Robatherm has developed a unique self-cleansing humidifier system, made from stainless steel. The Robatherm is ideal for use in hospitals and in food preparation environments."
UK hospitals have so far been slow to follow their European counterparts in adopting the Robatherm and its hygiene standard but this is likely to change following the recent report. Hospital acquired infections cost the NHS up to£1 billion each year, and hospitals which fail to improve their hygiene standards face inspections by the Commission for Health Improvement.
