Reviews special libraries and documentation centres in Ethiopia in terms of their infrastructure, bookstock, financial resources,organization and use of facilities and impact on the research process. Results indicate the inadequacy of government libraries and documentation services in Ethiopia to meet research needs. Discusses some of the factors which have impeded the development of satisfactory government libraries.
