Alternating Work and Education: A Sandwich Programme for an Under‐graduate Diploma in Library Science

The problems are described which confront experienced library assistants in seeking improved status and promotion, since they have no formal library school training and often have financial or family obstacles to full‐time study. A new sandwich course at the University of Port Harcourt is examined and the initial reactions of students and teachers discussed.
