Introduction to the special issue: voices of the new library professionals

We complete the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Library Reviewwith this special issue featuring articles from library students, newly qualified librarians, and those in the early stages of their professional careers.

The call for papers for this issue was a great success, seeing three times the submissions we could use in the issue from around the world. From the submissions received we have selected a broad range of articles, from reflective viewpoints to research papers, and it is hoped readers find the contributions of the new writers featured to be of interest. It is good to see so many young and newly qualified library professionals taking an interest in publishing in the journal, and I hope they continue to keep that enthusiasm for the duration of their careers. We need more and more passionate voices from the profession discussing the issues that will impact on us.

Many thanks to all those authors who have contributed to the journal in 2007,and we look forward to another 80 years of reflection and analysis on the profession of librarianship.
