Robin Hood in Interlending: Charging the information rich to help the information poor

Master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Africa. She has worked at the University of the Witwatersrand Library since 1983, where she has held the positions of Biological and Physical Sciences Librarian, and Information Librarian, in charge of online searching and interlending. She is currently employed as Medical Librarian, and is also newsletter editor of the South African Online User Group.

Addresses the issues of charging for interlibrary loans with particular reference to the experience at the University of Wittwatersrand, South Africa. Considers definitions of the information poor and the information rich and the cost of equal access to information. Proposes a method of charging the ′rich′ in order to offer free services to the ′poor′.
