Moving the library: the INIST experience

After a DEA degree in modern history and a degree in library science, Caroline Wiegandt‐Sakoun taught, then worked, in a public library. She joined the Centre de Documentation Scientifique et Technique of the CNRS in 1985. She is currently Head of Collection Management at the new Institut de l'Information Scientifique et Technique in Nancy.

Catherine Gunet
Holds a degree in medieval literature from the University of Washington. After a brief teaching career, she embarked on a new career as a medical librarian and medical information specialist in the USA. She joined the Institut de l'Information Scientifique et Technique in March 1988 and is currently in charge of International Relations.

Describes how in 1989 the Institut de l′Information Scientifique et Technique of the French Centre Nationale de Recherche moved its scientific and technical activities from Paris to Nancy. Discusses how the library staff prepared a large collection of periodicals,dissertations, research reports and congress proceedings located on three different sites for moving to a single site; how they came up with a theoretical model which led to a moving schedule. Finally, tells of the actual move.
