The methods of study and literature use of academic philosophers are examined, and the major current abstracting and indexing tools are briefly described. Philosophers' library needs, including inter‐library loan requests, are related to the collections and services of the BLLD. Analysis of a recent survey reveals the nature and extent of demand for philosophy journals on inter‐library loan.
