The National Library of Australia and the Australian Vice Chancellor's Local Interlending and Document Delivery ÑAdministration (LIDDA) Project have chosen ÑFretwell-Downing's Open Library System (OLIB) Virtual Document eXchange (VDX) system for their new interlending and document delivery support services for the nation's libraries.
The system will support the creation of requests, selection of suppliers, tracking and management of requests and the ILL payment scheme. Users will be able to search the National Bibliographic Database and automatically include bibliographic and location data on the ILL request. Customer libraries will access the system via a Web interface so no software will need to be distributed to the clients.
The implementation of such a document delivery system is simplified in Australia because of the availability of a national online catalogue with holdings information. Such a system is seen to be important in Australia, since there is no dedicated national centre for library-based document delivery services.
