British Library agreement with Elsevier on electronic format

Keywords: Partnerships, Libraries, Electronic publishing, Document supply

The British Library and Elsevier Science BV have reached an agreement on the supply and use of material in electronic format.

The electronic full text produced by Elsevier Science BV in their Science Direct Onsite system will be stored by the British Library. The agreement will allow access to over 800 Elsevier Science titles by readers in the new British Library Science Reading Rooms at the St Pancras building and to over 18,000 customers of the Library's Document Supply Service.

"This agreement builds on a two year trial with a small number of Elsevier titles in electronic format", said David Russon, deputy chief executive of the British Library. "That trial was successful and we are looking towards this full scale implementation as a precursor to similar deals with many other publishers."
