Interlibrary loan between US and Mexican libraries

The Transborder Library Forum was established 11 years ago to promote co-operation between libraries in Mexico, the USA and Canada (see the Brief Communication in this issue). One of its better-known achievements was the creation of the Transnational Interlibrary Loan Program, which was formed in May, 1997 to help libraries in Mexico and the USA obtain access to difficult-to-find journal articles. Articles are generally sent from one library to another using the Ariel software, although some libraries need to use fax. The group started with 36 libraries but currently consists of 49 Mexican libraries and ten US libraries and continues to grow. The group is presently testing a Web-based format, which will allow end-users to initiate the interlibrary loan process.
