Journal boycott by scientists
Journal boycott by scientists
From September 2001 a group of UK and US scientists has vowed to boycott Reed and Harcourt General STM journals, following the merger of the two groups.
The academics are incensed by scientific and library communities being forced to buy back research papers supplied for free to corporate publishers.
Over 25,000 academics from 170 countries have signed an open letter, written by the Public Library of Science (PLS), that urges publishers to allow the research reports that have appeared in their journals to be included in electronic archives and to be read and used without obstruction.
