OCLC to collaborate with National Library of Australia to provide gateway to WorldCat for small librariesKeywords:Australia, Cataloguing

The National Library of Australia (NLA) and OCLC will provide small libraries in Australia with access to WorldCat (the OCLC Online Union Catalog) on a trial basis. Australian special, school, public and other small libraries will access WorldCat through the NLA's Kinetica service in 2002.

The National Library of Australia operates Kinetica, Australia's library network, serving over 1,000 Australian libraries of all types. NLA's Kinetica provides access to over 33 million items held in Australian libraries.

WorldCat, available to libraries online since 1971, is a merged, electronic catalogue of the bibliographic and holding information of OCLC member libraries. The records in WorldCat represent more than 800 million items held in libraries around the world.
