The annual survey by the Library and Information Statistics Unit at Loughborough University in the UK of academic book prices in the UK and the USA has come up with a surprising contrast. Prices in the USA have risen by 4.9 per cent in 2001 over 2002 but in the UK have fallen by 7.0 per cent. They observe that: "This is the first significant fall recorded for the UK" –since figures were produced from 1985.
