Mortgage repossessions rise

The number of mortgage repossessions leapt by more than two-thirds last year,according to new statistics. The Department for Constitutional Affairs latest figures on possession actions show that banks and building societies seized a total of 17,000 homes in 2006. This figure represented a 65 percent increase on 2005 and was the highest recorded since 2001.
