A reader seizing on this slim volume because of its title and hoping to learn about technical, legal and insurance aspects of the failures of building structures will be disappointed. On reading the rest of the title page "Proceedings of the Founding Symposium of the International Society for Technology, Law and Insurance 18-19 November 1993: Vienna, Austria" and then looking through the contents, he or she will understand that the 20 papers it contains are not about the sort of structures with which Structural Survey is concerned.
Structure in the title is used in the sense of an organised body rather than anything relating to building or construction, and the papers are more concerned with the philosophy of product liability, the theory of risk analysis, integrity evaluation and fracture mechanics, than with the sort of structure we spend our days inspecting and reporting on. Readers are unlikely to need to find a place for this book on their shelves.
