Three companies fined after scaffold collapse

The HSE has successfully prosecuted three companies following an incident on 15 July 1998 where scaffolding being dismantled collapsed at Adelaide House,London Bridge, EC4. Instead of lowering the scaffolding to the ground it was progressively stacked until, becoming overloaded, it collapsed. No member of the public was injured but several workers were and one required major surgery to one arm. Fines and costs totalling nearly £60,000 were imposed by City of London Magistrates Court. The HSE is also prosecuting Persimmon Homes (South Coast) Ltd over the death of a labourer killed after collision with a vehicle on a site in Dorset.
