Building surveyors and engineers may see their chances of mobility in Europe being improved currently and that amendments to improve the transferability of qualifications have been successfully voted through the committee stage in the European Parliament. The amended draft Directive on recognition of professional qualifications now specifically states that building design may be carried out by other professionals beyond architects, “in particular by engineers and surveyors who have undergone special training in the field of construction or the art of building”. The amendments were done to go to a full vote of the European Parliament on 17 December.
