The duty to manage asbestos in buildings becomes law on 21 May 2004 and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has called upon duty-holders to complete an online questionnaire to advise them how they are preparing to comply with the new legislation. The HSE has also published updated statistics that predicted deaths from mesothelioma are likely to be lower than originally thought. Deaths are expected to peak at nearer to 2,000 p.a. between 2011 and 2015 (rather than nearer 3,000 p.a. as predicted in 1995).
