Climate change is a matter of global concern and in order that it is holistically dealt with, aspects of governance need to be considered. Therefore, the field of climate change governance is an emerging area, one which is closely related to administrative systems, most of which are not able to handle neither mitigation, nor adaptation measures in a meaningful way. This book tackles the issue of “Climate Change Governance”, which takes into account principles of accountability, management and institutional strengthening, which are applied when tackling the various challenges posed by climate change.

It includes a wide range of steering mechanisms ranging from informal cooperation between different institutions and actors to hierarchical forms of regulation. The governance of climate change is dealt with in detail, including the application of economic models used in climate change management, which enable organisational structures to be developed for public administration, contractors or private bodies.

The book provides a concrete contribution to efforts to conceptualise and to explain climate change governance, since the complexity of climate change and the many physical, chemical, economic and social variables associated with it,go beyond the scope of traditional governance processes.
