This issue of the International Journal of Clothing Science and Technology presents selected papers from 4th International Technical Textiles Congress (ITCC) which was held on 16-18 May 2010 in Istanbul and organized by Department of Textile Engineering, Dokuz Eylül University,Izmir, Turkey.

The aim of the congress, which is been held periodically since 2002, is to gather the researchers and companies from all over the world which are working on technical textiles that are high performance products with special manufacturing techniques and also to provide new opportunities for current and new investors.

A total of 48 oral and 37 poster presentations were given in the areas of:high performance fibres, industrial textiles, medical textiles, protective clothes, military textiles, filtration textiles, composite materials, smart textiles/clothes, packaging textiles, automotive textiles, sportive textiles,agricultural textiles, civil engineering and constructive textiles, geotextiles. All of the presentations have been included in the proceedings book and CD of the congress.

The congress sessions and informal discussions that took place during the congress will hopefully stimulate new projects and ideas on technical textiles and their applications.

On behalf of the scientific and organising committees of the 4th ITTC 2010, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Clothing Science and Technology for the opportunity to publish these selected papers from the congress and in this way to further promote and disseminate the results of this congress, for the ultimate benefit of the textile community.
