Purpose

Based on the experiments, this paper compared the physical and mechanical properties of polyurethane (PU) leather at different coagulation and concentrations.

Design/methodology/approach

In order to investigate the effect of thermal water droplets-induced phase inversion on the properties of PU leather, the research takes thermal water droplets and water as a coagulation bath, then induces the PU casting solution phase inversion to form PU leather.

Findings

The result shows that under the condition of thermal water droplets as a coagulation bath, the internal microporosity of PU leather, permeability and mechanical properties are improved; and the higher the concentration of PU casting solution, the smaller the internal microporosity of PU leather, the lower the permeability and moisture-penetrability, the better the mechanical properties.

Originality/value

This paper studies the preparation of PU leather prepared from non-woven fabric by the thermal microbead-induced phase transition method and measures its performance, and the mechanism of the preparation process was revealed. It provides an idea for the preparation of artificial leather with good air permeability.
