NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani said that PCR machines would be installed in all hospitals established by public-private partnerships to facilitate poor patients suffering from Hepatitis B and C.

During the tenth meeting of the Health Foundation’s Board of Directors at the Chief Minister’s House, Durrani constituted a committee under the chairmanship of the managing director of the Health Foundation to monitor the installation of the PCR machines and improve medical facilities for patients suffering from fatal diseases. He also recommended inducting other experts to improve the committee’s efficiency.

Durrani directed the committee to present its recommendations to the board within a month so that practical work could be initiated. The provision of quality healthcare to the public, he said, was the government’s top priority. He also agreed to the proposal of appointing male nurses in government hospitals and asked the authorities to begin work on the project’s implementation. Durrani also recommended either shifting the Health Foundation’s offices to a government-owned building or building a new office on government land.

He said that a raise in the salaries of Health Foundation workers was proportionate to their performance. He also directed committee members to present constructive proposals in the board’s next meeting. He stressed the need to promote the private sector and suggested granting them loans on easy terms so that the private sector could also provide cheaper health facilities to lower-income groups. Durrani appreciated the efforts made by the Health Foundation to impart medical education to poor students, adding that transparency in the distribution of scholarships among deserving students was a big achievement on the provincial government’s part.
