The Problem with Standards: A Plea for a Behavioural Framework Available to Purchase

Standards are central to quality assurance; if they are ambiguous or imprecise then the entire enterprise is a waste of time. The way to eliminate ambiguity is to use behavioural language, but this poses problems for workers in the care sector. Problems which centre on the incompatibility of the qualitative‐quantitative dichotomy. Suggests that this problem is largely semantic and that by realigning our perception of nursing activity and problem solving standards can be written which are both precise and analytic.
