Scope
The focus of Swarm Robotics is to study how a swarm of relatively simple physically embodied robots can be controlled to collectively accomplish tasks that are beyond the capabilities of a single robot. The advantages of swarm robotics are that:
complex control is achievable through simple local interactions of the swarm members;
the results scale well with larger numbers of robots; and
the swarm is robust to failure of individual members.
Algorithms, techniques and methods based on swarm robotics principles have been successfully applied to a wide range of complex problems. This special issue aims at exhibiting the latest research achievement, findings and ideas in the area of Swarm Robotics.
Possible topics for the issue include but are not limited to:
Modeling and analysis.
Coordination and control.
Formation configuration and stabilization.
Self-organization and self-assembly.
Simulation tools and hardware.
Optimization.
Emergent behavior.
Evolutionary swarms.
Adaptive swarm architectures.
Swarm communication.
Distributed swarm applications.
This special issue on Swarm Robotics will be published in the International Journal of Intelligent Computing and Cybernetics (ISSN: 1756-378X) (www.emeraldinsight.com/ijicc.htm).
Submission of manuscripts: January 10, 2009Notification of acceptance:April 20, 2009Submission of final papers: June 10, 2009
Submission
All submissions should include a title page containing the title of the paper, full names and affiliation, complete postal and electronic address, phone and fax numbers, an abstract and a list of keywords, followed by the main text, references, list of figures and tables. The corresponding author should be clearly identified.
All manuscripts will undergo a normal review process. Only manuscripts with minor modifications will be accepted for publication in the special issue. Those manuscripts that need a major revision will be forwarded to the journal office for possible publication in regular issues.
Original artwork and a signed copy of the copyright release form will be required for all accepted papers. Inquiries can be made to the guest editors at shettiar@eou.eduand wspears@cs.uwyo.edu
The preferred file format for accepted paper is Word, including figures, tables and signed copyright form. Other acceptable formats are WordPerfect or Tex/Latex, and the Latex submission must be accompanied with the PDF version. The templates are given at http://ijicc.buaa.edu.cn/index.files/right.htm#Paper_Template. Manuscript submissions must be e-mailed to both guest editors:
