The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable scale to conceptualize and measure the impact of technology on business model innovation.
Data was collected from seven industries and in two samples of 120 and 200 respondents, respectively. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were run to develop and validate the scale.
The findings revealed that business model innovation as a 17-item scale that can be conceptualized into four factors: value proposition, value creation, value capture and value network.
The scale developed would serve as a useful tool for managers to analyse and assess the impact of any technological innovation on their firm’s business models.
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is one of the first to conceptualize and measure the impact of technology on business model innovation. The scale developed will help in advancing future theoretical and empirical research on business model innovation.
