Green performance is crucial for environmental sustainability The purpose of this study is to examine green leadership and green performance nexus along with the role of green procurement and environmental dynamism in the health sector for looking into legal and managerial insights.

Design/methodology/approach

A sample of 397 nurses was selected to collect quantitative data using questionnaires from various hospitals. PLS structural equation modeling helped in analyzing the data.

Findings

Green leadership is significantly important for achieving green performance in the health-care sector to avoid any legal problems. However, the presence of green procurement strengthens the achievement of environmental performance. Similarly, the higher environmental dynamism creates a stronger demand to go green.

Practical implications

This study highlights the importance of green leadership in the health-care sector for promoting environmental performance. Hospitals with green leaders can easily foster sustainability. Adopting green procurement practices boosts the environmental compliance. The environmental dynamism increased the demand for green practices; therefore, these findings suggest the need for adapting new practices for legal and managerial compliance.

Originality/value

The present study stresses the need for a holistic legal and managerial approach to adopt green leadership. The environmental dynamism and the demand for eco-friendly procurement practices are examined as a milestone to achieve sustainability through the lens of social exchange theory.
