“Sustainable Development”, as I understand it, is purported to be a more rational approach to enterprise planning, reconciling social and environmental concerns into the production process. To make this process work, it seems to me, it would take honesty, integrity, social awareness and caring by all participants in the endeavour. Based on knowledge gleaned from long and bitter experience, development — at least in Nova Scotia, has not a “snowball's chance in hell” of being sustainable.
