The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between environmental leadership (EL) on pro-environmental behaviors (PEBs) by using environmental corporate social responsibility (ECSR) as mediator factor. PEBs have been recognized as crucial for sustainable development. However, research on their antecedents from an organizational management perspective, such as EL, remains limited.
This paper uses upper-echelon theory to explore how EL influences the adoption of ECSR policies, subsequently affecting employees’ environmental behavior. Empirical data collected from 99 employees of technology firms support all the proposed hypotheses.
The findings of this study support the hypothesis presented in this paper that EL will inspire businesses to adopt more eco-friendly CSR policies, which will boost environmental advocacy and protection efforts. Similar correlations between these factors have been postulated in the literature.
Initially, it is imperative for organizations to implement an enhancement mechanism that encourages PEBs, as they are essential in practice. Second, the experimental analysis of this paper demonstrates that EL is a significant factor in the promotion of PEB. Finally, it is imperative that companies incorporate environmental-friendly behaviors into the organizational culture, as this can motivate employees to adhere to the principles of environmental-friendly behavior.
This study introduces a new research avenue focusing on leadership’s role in promoting PEBs, highlighting a novel pathway through the adoption of ECSR policies and guiding future research on environmental organizational behaviors.
