A group of pharmaceutical companies have claimed (following a sample of 7,428 employees) that the cost of insomnia to the US economy is $63.2 billion in lost productivity, or $2,280 per worker.

“Many people who do not sleep well report to work as scheduled but do not perform as expected. These employees spend their day drinking caffeine and fighting sleep rather than being productive.”

We would take more notice if their was less self-interest in the findings, wouldn’t we?
