Competitive Strategy

Michael PorterSimon & Schuster£27.95ISBN 0-684-84148-7

Keywords Competitive strategy, Management theory

This is the latest reprint of a book first published in 1980. This version includes a new introduction but is otherwise unchanged. However, as one of the seminal works in the field (and a considerable though indirect influence on general society as well as on business strategy), it does deserve to be on the bookshelves. Porter takes a particular approach to competition and has developed a framework for predicting competitor behaviour. As business becomes increasingly competitive, this framework can become increasingly valuable. His ideas are presented in a clear and straightforward manner, though some of the material is complex. This is not a coffee table or airport book it deserves considered and thoughtful reading, especially by those who did not read it first time round.
