Sun Microsystems claims record-setting price performance for its new Sun Fire V880 server on Oracle's Applications Standard Benchmark version 11i. Sun's servers were able to serve more than 3,416 users at an average response time of 1.90 seconds, to achieve its record-setting results. Delivering the world-class results was an eight-way, 750 MHz Sun Fire V880 server priced at $119,995, which included 32GB of memory and 12 36GB hard drives. While the Sun Fire V880 was used as the database server, 14 two-way, 750 MHz Sun Fire 280Rs served as the benchmark's application servers. See http://www.sun.com/presskit/sunfirev880/

Sun's benchmark results are the first to be published with the new Oracle Applications Standard Benchmark, version 11i, which offers increased functionality over version 11.0. An online transaction processing benchmark, the test simulates realistic customer scenarios using a selection of the most commonly used Oracle application modules: Oracle Financials (payables, receivables, general ledger, and assets) and three application modules from Oracle Supply Chain Management (purchase orders, order entry, and inventory). Developed by Oracle and audited by a third party, the Oracle Applications Standard Benchmark demonstrates the level of performance on memory, network and I/O performance that Oracle customers require to support dedicated users.
