Loud and clear
Anyone who has ever done transcribing knows how frustrating it can be to listen over and over to the same thing and still not know what is being said!Good dictation equipment – and equally good transcribing equipment –addresses this frustration. Issues that are important are variable speed – allowing the transcriber to speed up or slow down the dictators voice without distorting it; this is often a great aid to understanding what is being said. Volume and tone control are next in line, and all of these features should be readily and quickly accessible to the operator. Ergonomics are important too – the foot pedal that controls the actual playing of the tape should have a "backup"control with flexibility in how far back the tape moves with each foot tap by a simple setting on the machine. The foot pedal should also be variable so that it can be slanted at an angle that is comfortable in use. Although headphones are easily replaceable at a comfortable price, the supplied headphones should fit comfortably, have plenty of cord length, and be durable with clear sound quality. If you want to see all these features put into practice, take a look at the Panasonic RR-830 Transcriber.
