To encourage UK SMEs to move into e-business, the Government DTI (Department for Trade and Industry) has teamed up with the British Chamber of Commerce to set up a number of e-business clubs. Around 16 of the clubs are meeting thus far, exchanging best practices, ideas and case studies over a coffee. Minister for E-commerce, Douglas Alexander, said: "It's a testing time in the UK at the moment. There are currently 1.9m small businesses exploiting IT but some businesses still see technology as a threat." The clubs will support firms as they move online and BT, HP, Lloyd's, Intel and Cisco back the initiative.
