On the one hand …

In a recent government announcement was a plan to put up rail fares significantly – to raise money for investment and to reduce passenger numbers, so that those travelling would be more comfortable. There is logic here… but it does not square with other announcements of the need to take passengers off the roads onto public transport. I know it is difficult to devise an integrated transport strategy that works – but, after all, that is what we are paying our politicians for!
