StarTrak LLC, a provider of advanced wireless supply chain management solutions for the freight transportation industries, has announced that Crowley Liner Services, a subsidiary of Crowley Maritime Corporation, has deployed StarTrak's GenTrak wireless monitoring solution for refrigerated assets on its fleet of Power-Paks. The Power-Paks are containerised dual generator sets used to power up to 30 refrigerated containers while underway. With the delivery of the two-way satellite-based service, Crowley has dramatically improved the monitoring of its refrigerated shipments between its port facilities in Philadelphia, PA, Jacksonville, FL, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The StarTrak system allows Crowley to track and monitor the Power-Paks that operate between the three ports. The system helps to assure that refrigerated containers shipped by barge reach their destination with their refrigerated loads maintained at the proper temperature. StarTrak's solution uses satellite communications terminals and services to provide in-transit asset visibility throughout North America and the Caribbean. Because of its very low power operation, the GenTrak system is always on and available to transmit messages and receive polls. Should an unplanned event occur, the equipment automatically transmits exception data through StarTrak's network to Crowley. They are notified of the problem within minutes via pager, e-mail or their Web site.
