PHYSICAL ABILITY TESTING AS A MEANS TO REDUCE INJURIES IN GROCERY WAREHOUSES

A large‐scale statistical study indicates that new‐hire selectors who do not have adequate strength or endurance to meet the job requirements have an injury rate that is roughly 2.5 times the rate of selectors who can meet the job demands. This means that physical ability testing has the potential to reduce injuries by at least 10 per cent. Actual reductions have been in the range of 20‐40 per cent.
