STOCK CONTROL AT MAC FISHERIES: THE USE OF PORTABLE RECORDING EQUIPMENT

Much has been written about the use of electronic cash registers at the point of sale as part of a system for improving stock control. MacFisheries, with 72 supermarkets in the South and Midlands, approaches the problem from a different angle. They use an MSI portable recording system which is, in their view, appropriate to the systems they have adopted in the stores for stock control and for achieving the right target service level. Pat Lilley claims that the MSI system reduces inventory to two weeks sales; cuts down shrinkage; improves service levels and speeds up the process of replenishing.
