Purpose

The wind resistance performance of the bridge tower is predicted from a probabilistic perspective, providing a theoretical basis for risk prevention and structural reinforcement.

Design/methodology/approach

Vulnerability analysis; harmonic superposition method.

Findings

The results indicate that the cable-bent tower is unlikely to experience damage at wind speeds below 60 m/s. However, the likelihood of damage increases slightly when wind speeds exceed 60 m/s. The maximum recorded instantaneous wind speed at the bridge site is 68 m/s, under which the probability of slight damage to the tower is approximately 5%, with no significant wind-induced damage observed. When wind speeds surpass 68 m/s, the probability of slight and moderate damage to the tower rises notably. At wind speeds reaching 100 m/s, the probability of exceeding slight damage increases to 73.7%.
