Lessons learned from historical development and modern practice of marketplaces – focus on the Serbian capital city Available to Purchase

Marko D. Petrović, PhD, is a Senior Research Associate at the Social Geography Department of the Geographical Institute “Jovan Cvijić,” Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) in Belgrade (Serbia). He contributes as a Visiting Professor to the South Ural State University, Institute of Sports, Tourism, and Service in Chelyabinsk (Russia), and as an Honorary Fellow to the University of Wisconsin–Madison, College of Letters and Science, DPLA in Madison (WI, USA). He is also currently affiliated with Kaufman Lab for the Study and Design of Food Systems and Marketplaces at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Dr. Petrović is a human geographer and his research is centered upon rural development and tourism, local markets, community-based economy planning and spatial aspects of tourism.

Edna Ledesma, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She is the director of the Kaufman Lab for the Study and Design of Food Systems and Marketplaces. The corpus of her research, teaching and mentoring focuses on understanding the development of the smart, green, and just 21st-century city, in particularly the cultural landscapes of immigrant populations, micro-economies and their development of a new understanding of city place.

Snežana Štetić is university professor and travel consultant, working in tourism and in education for more than 40 years. As a recognized expert in tourism, in addition to teaching in Serbia, she is (was) a visiting professor in many countries in Europe. She is the author of numerous papers, books and book chapters. She has published 35 books in fields of tourism, more than hundred articles, over 40 tourism projects. Her main fields of scientific interest and research are tourist development, sustainable tourism, rural tourism, risks in tourism and practical training for tourism studies. She is the author of specialized business schools in tourism. She is also an experienced chairman of the board and strong entrepreneurship professional with PhD focused on tourism. She is a member of the National Council for Recovery and Development of Tourism of the Republic of Serbia, World Tourism network, Editorial Boards of international magazines. She is also the founder, cofounder, board member or president of several associations: Balkan Network of Tourism Experts, Association for Tourism and Catering Industry of Serbia, Group for Rural tourism of the SCC, Tourist Guide Association of Serbia, etc.

Igor Trišić’s main fields of scientific interest and research are tourism development, sustainable tourism, ecology, geoecology, environment protection and environmental protection programs, UNESCO program: man and biosphere (MaB), tourism geography, management and marketing of tourism and hotel management, management of tourism destinations, importance of protected natural areas and species (IUCN), business tourism and innovation of ecology educational programs, eco-Management. He is the author and coauthor of many scientific articles and joined many international and domestic congresses.

Milan M. Radovanović, PhD, is a principal research fellow at the Physical Geography Department of the Geographical Institute “Jovan Cvijić” SASA in Belgrade (Serbia) and visiting professor to the South Ural State University, Institute of Sports, Tourism, and Service in Chelyabinsk (Russia). His field of interest is the environmental and natural processes in the social context. Also, Dr Radovanović is involved in the research of climatic changes, natural hazards, local development and tourism.
