Indentec upgrades Brinell Measurement

Keywords: Measurement, Indentec

A novel handheld microscope from Indentec is said to maximise accuracy and consistency in measuring Brinell hardness impressions.

For enhancing the performance of existing Brinell testing systems, the new scope differs from old-style devices by usinglight-emitting diodes (LEDs)instead of a flashlight attachment to illuminate impressions.

Positioned to give a precise definition of the impression edges, the LEDs eliminate any need to manouevre the light source to “pick” a view for measurement, a practice that introduces variations into the measuring process.

Completely enclosed, the Indentec scope provides all illumination itself, preventing any external light reaching and distorting the impression. With its sharp 20× magnification, it is suitable for measuring Brinell impressions up to the 10 mm ball, and for checking case depths of heat-treated specimens on footprints as narrow as 16 mm.

A removeable snap-on base is available to allow the instrument to be stood upright to ensure a stable platform for measurement. Power for the LEDs is provided by an internal battery rated for 200 h continuous use.
