VARIOUS types of presses are employed in forming different metals ; experience gained over the years has shown that non‐ferrous materials must be handled very differently from steels in this respect. Studies of optimum results obtained have shown the feasibility of using much higher drawing speeds for non‐ferrous stock, as against steel. Seldom will 50 ft/min. be exceeded on a drawing job for steel, and speed may be considerably less than this. For non‐ferrous metals, however, drawing speeds as high as 200 ft/min. have been used successfully.
