THE CHART is designed to assist the machine designer to determine “which” bearing is most suitable for specific operating conditions. It is a table used by A. O. DeHart (Research Engineer, General Motors Corporation) in his paper entitled “Which Bearing and Why” presented at the Design Engineering Conference at Philadelphia, May 25th–28th, 1959, of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. It represents a general guide only, ratings may change when special types of bearings and abnormal operating conditions occur.
