THERE are times when even the most sophisticated physical and chemical laboratory tests fail to give the desired result—i.e. how does the product serve in the field. In such cases, only field tests will provide the answer. But sometimes a compromise can be made. This example, testing bearing seals for agricultural machinery, employs damp grass used in a way that closely simulates bearing operation on the farm.
